'Cause it's a staged photo and he wasn't really instructing at the time. How do I know? NOBODY stands on the tarmac in the hot Texas sun and instructs with a 40-pound parachute hanging off his butt.It is interesting that all the WASPS are looking at the instructor's face, not hands, and most are wearing wedding rings.

Can't argue that!Considering that none were lost to enemy aircraft, and a single confirmed kill was awarded, it has the highest kill to loss ratio of any WW2 fighter.
The lowest fuel and oil consumption per mission, too.Considering that none were lost to enemy aircraft, and a single confirmed kill was awarded, it has the highest kill to loss ratio of any WW2 fighter.

The C-5A was supposed to have the capability to inflate and deflate its tires in flight, in order to enable it to switch from long concrete runways to short dirt airstrips. The idea was that it could do the job of a C-130 as well as a C-141. The thing ended up costing so much that the full number of desired aircraft could not be procured, thereby making each one a precious national asset. And nobody was going to be stupid enough to risk a precious national asset where a C-130 would work as well. So the special equipment needed for tire inflation and deflation was never installed in the A model. The special equipment consisted of the hoses to do the inflation and deflation and compressor powered by engine bleed air that featured air bearings.
For years thereafter the manufacturer bragged that their air bearing design had proved to be a great success, with no failures.....
