Great action picture showing the ground crew cranking the starter's handle and the fold down maintenance platform that you would get the privilege of stowing after the engine is started and with the prop spinning just a few feet from your head and hands. Just proves that a Flight Deck was never a safe place to work!

The US Navy used "S" to designate scouting aircraft and squadrons from 1922 to 1946.
In 1946 the designation was changed to indicate anti-submarine aircraft and squadrons.

entered the Second World War worked with British Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) ferrying American built aircraft to Britain
and becoming the first woman to fly a Lockheed Hudson V bomber across the Atlantic.
