Lancaster "Aries" (serial number PD328) was a specially modified Avro Lancaster heavy bomber used by the Empire Air Navigation School at RAF Shawbury. It holds historic aviation significance as the first British aircraft to fly around the world (1944) and the first to fly over the geographical and magnetic North Poles (1945).The aircraft was stripped of its armaments and heavily modified for advanced polar navigation and scientific study.
