The Falklands war broke out April 1982 when Ronald Regan was President. Those are FG-1 Phantoms on Ark Royal. They were integrated with the RAF when Ark was scrapped. Then in 1990-91 the Phantom force from Leuchars was shredded at Whiteinch Glasgow.
Correct, and the F-4J(UK) Phantoms served with RAF 74 Sqn as part of ADGB, after the Falklands conflict, to bolster home defence, as a Flight of RAF Phantoms had been deployed to the Falklands for local defence.

Since I apparently wasn't clear enough, my point was that Reagan could not have given the Brits F-4s because the Brits had them before Reagan took office.
Just to clarify, the RAF and Royal Navy had "British" Phantoms (F-4K and F-4M) from 1967, until being phased out in 1990/91.
The Phantoms "given" to the RAF were modified F-4J models, designated F-4J(UK), serving as a "stop gap" in RAF service until full introduction of the Tornado F3.
Thanks to this thread, I learned that the Soviet AF/FAA and the US Navy had airplanes with almost the same designation, the only difference was the series letter. I don't know what this knowledge is for, but I find it just kind of funny.
