Pictures of Cold War aircraft. (14 Viewers)

Looking at the flash hider, odds are strong this could be a M16 (firts adopted by the USAF in 1964 without the bolt assist), not a M16A1.

Good eye and it would make sense for a USAF machine. Incidentally here is some relevant footage:

A memorial service held at the Saigon's Tân Sơn Nhứt airport flight line on Thursday, April 22, 1965 for 10 U.S. Army men killed in Bình Định Province on
April 19 and 20 and for an American civilian killed on Monday, April 19, in a Việt Cộng ambush on Saigon highway.

That is the pilot with the M.16 and rear seat guy has the stick. One could actually fire from the smaller rear seat windows without danger of hitting the strut.
Boy I need my eyes checked. I must be dyslectic, I read M61 instead of M16

More especially on your shoulder.

She still carried an air to air bite.

If an enemy aircraft is equipped with radar then it's still within the Wild Weasel's remit 😅

That recoil would be a bitch!
I've fired a M-16 a bunch, bad recoil isn't one of it's traits. About the only service rifle of it's era that had softer recoil might be the M1 Carbine.
