I totally agree, I've never heard of more than three pods used at anytime. A single centerline was the norm as it cuts out of other stores and fuel tanks. An F-4 would have a difficult time crossing the street without the extra fuel!There are sidewinders fitted to the first 'gun toting' Phantom. That said, I don't believe these were operational load outs.
