My finest sand paper is was 800 grit, not good for metal finishes. I wish I had this before I painted the fuselage of my current GB. For those counting as home, I have been to PG four times in 6 days putting out personal fires. Two more to go this week and done for a couple of weeks. Anyhoo, the purchase...

I buy my sanding sheets from the local car accessories shop, where I can get individual sheets at a fraction of the price of packs from "specialist" outlets, at just pennies per sheet. Beng for car body use, they have a great range, down to so fine a grit it acts as a polisher.

I have a set of soft sanding pads that range from 100 to 12000mg over 9 pads.

Went to the famous Akihabira shopping district where plastic models are plentiful and cheap; two of the most dangerous adjectives a modeler can hear. The stores there are bonkers; it's like an entire mall in one building, and there are hundreds of them. Yodobashi-Akiba is 7 floors and sells electronics, appliances, bikes, clothes; and plastic models. It's like a Sears from 1970's. One corner had an extensive selection of model railroad, RC cars, Gundam (they are giant fighting robots), ships, tanks, cars and airplanes. Also a huge selection of paint, tools, and detail accessories. Any armor builders are covered with this kit.
I carried around a few small scale kits that were 1/4 the cost of them (with shipping) in the States but settled on this Phantom. I'll get one built someday. Stopped by the camera section, there were ALL the major makers, Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad and others, all with full isles to choose from. I managed to not give my wife a heart attack.
That bad boy in the lower right is $1000 and the middle is $1500.

I know I'm late to the fair and I'm sure it has been discussed ad nauseam somewhere, but is there any consensus on the colour of these? Are they red and white as in many box arts and decals or sand and white as in the Italeri kit, or are they just white outlines?

Jealous for certain! I used to travel with a max size allowed suit case, empty going over, and packed coming back. At the time I was going over there the Yen was 250 per $. Even a that rate I WAY over spent, but had so many treasures; cameras, electronics, stuff. Baggage checked a complete entertainment system, speakers, stereo receiver, tuner and turntable. Still working by the way. And yes, Kimonos and pearls from the Imperial Hotel shops.

Good luck. I was well sucked into this dilemma with my Junkers a while back, I still shudder at the complexity discussion and thoughts on the subject and in the end just followed the decals with the white and brown snake.

I have a metal diecast one I purchased a few years back. I forget what the color is, but it's an interesting look. What Junkers I have are going to the Regia Aeronautica.Good luck.
