Well, I did it today. Atlantis Models has 24 P-39 kits, bagged with no box or decals, for $47.99 and I ordered 48 of them. They had a 15% discount, so now was the time to do it. I know of no other way to buy a bunch of plastic model kits for only around $2 each. There is a Christian pilot's organization at our airport that has its own large hangar and I will propose to them we pick a day and bring in some kids to teach about building plastic model kits. They already host our Young Eagles days and the annual Toys for Tots breakfast. I don't know how we will limit attendance to just 48 kids and I am pretty sure if we just advertised we would have far too many show up. But we will figure it out, perhaps do it in groups smaller than 48.

Good on you. Make sure you leave them unsupervised with sharp surgical knives and glue to drink. It'll be fun. I'm thinking YouTube!

I'm thinking that entry to the building session will require that they demonstrate the ability to don a dry cleaning bag and then remove it 15 min later.

Then there will be a written quiz on why the P-39 is the Best Damn Airplane Ever Built.

No one will EVER pass that test. Not even a Russian could come up with an answer for that. Lower the aptitude to a reasonable okay airplane and than maybe, I say again MAYBE, you might have an aggregate if builders.

But I like my idea better!!!!

Now, that would be cool! But think of the amount of detail you would have to add to each one.

I am just wondering how many kids to get together at one time for build sessions. I figure we would prefer one adult for each child building and preferably no more than two kids per adult. So maybe one dozen kids per session would be the maximum. How we select/inform/advertise to the kids I do not know. For Young Eagles day where we give free airplane rides we just announce it, but that would not be a good idea for building models, since we probably would run out of kits pretty fast.
