One more time Alice, One more time, POW to the moon!

You left out the BANG! ZOOM!

Back in the 1980's Air and Space Magazine ran a cartoon showing astronauts on the Moon examining a dessicated woman's body on the lunar surface, with the caption "It's Alice Kramden!"

This resulted in the magazine receiving a letter complaining of their remarkable insensitivity to victims of domestic violence.

In the same time frame the magazine ran a very short article about a 1920's air racing team that came out of an old Southern plantation, a business headed by a woman described as "Drop Dead Gorgeous."

This resulted in a letter to the publication complaining that it was not necessary to refer to the physical attributes of the female CEO.

To me, these represent the very definition of the term "WOKE" well before it came into common use.

Last year I read Life magazines for the entire WW2 period, to see how reporting then compared to what we know now. The way the magazine talked about women and blacks would have had the magazine more than likely, shut down. I also really liked the ads and prices

The Ki-61 II Kai (kai stays for modified AFAIK) is even "longer nosed" than the Ki-61 I Tei (I was writing about in a different thread). The one with the glazed rear canopy looks slightly like the Italian "cousins" from the Reggiane-family. Very good choice of models! Kudos!
Thanks. I had to think about getting them for a little bit.

I have an old Tamiya 1/50 Ki-61. I wonder how many 1/50 kits were out there at one time. UPC put out some, including a remarkable F-86D I have an example of. I guess that SMER put out out some as well and in fact I think I have a 1/50 scale SMER Swordfish on floats. I guess that old ITC Grumman Duck reissued by Glencoe is 1/50.

I think we would have a much better appreciation of the Ki-61 had not Capt William L. Shomo and his novice wingman come along to dispel it.

I believe the Hasegawa Ki.84 was 1:50
Geo, AFAIK the Tamiya-kit is 1:50ish. The Hase is 1:48. Otaki is 1:48 as well. I have Hase and I believe I measured/compared sizes and it was AFAIR a real 1:48er.
Check this article.
IMHO this was done by mistake, not that it's a real 1:50 kit. Have seen old Smer kits, known as 1:48 (e.g. Fiat G.55) to be offered today as 1:50.

Two on my wish list, both 1:72:

Kiwi Resin Models AESL Airtourer
VAMI Models As.65 Consul

Both rare as hen's teeth, never even seen them in the flesh.
A few more types aswell, but no- one has ever kitted them (Robinson Redwing II, Porterfield 35W, Rearwin Sportster 9000, Waco QDC, etc)

On a different note, do you have this set Evan?

I don't know Geo.
There are six decal options very interesting...
When I will built it I will decide what to do...
It is a very nice kit🤩
There are 2 possibilities with the yellow cowling (which is by far the most attractive IMHO):
The one on the estern front:

And the one in Sicily:

The camouflage is basically the same but I always liked the mix of yellow cowl and white fuselage band.
