This came in the mail yesterday. Very very primitive kit of an unusual aircraft, the for-runner of the F-101. The original kit was from the 1950s so there's not much too it. It will have to be completely sanded down and re-scribed with a lot of filler. About what I expected when I ordered it, but the one part I was worried about, the canopy, was a pleasant surprise. Very nicely molded, clear and relatively thin, as good at what you'd find in most new kits. It will look good sitting next to my Monogram F-101 when I get around to building all the centaury series kits I have in the stash

Nice one Glenn. It's surprising what can be done with some of these old, basic kits (which were top line in their time). If the shape and scale is more or less OK, then it's a great 'blank canvas' to really do some good modelling on.

Some nice kits there guys. After my F-8 arrived, I started reading reviews and saw that the kit seat wasn't right so I bought this...

...immediately thereafter, on the Squadron site I saw this True Details set and purchased same...

It soon occurred to me that I now have 3 bang seats, one F-8. A quick stroll to the Martin Baker site showed that the T-33 also used the same seats so I'll be using them in my shark-mouth CT-133 RCAF bird in GB26.

Good stuff Geo, but just check on the seat fit for the T-33/CT-133. The 'standard' seat is as shown below, and those ex- RCAF/CAF CT-133's I've seen, as well as ex-USAF aircraft, had these fitted.
Is it possible that the MB site is referring to the Cessna T-33 'Tweet.?

Right you are Terry, though it's a Cessna T-37 and even that's the wrong seat. Imagine, the Martin Baker site lying to ME!!!. I did read that the MK.7 is similar to the Mk.5, the former having the addition of the underseat rocket to give the seat zero-zero capability and the parachute went from a soft pack to a hard pack. At least I have other kits to use the seats in.

My mistake on the T-37 !
Yes the seats are very similar, and also similar (as far as a model seat goes) to other versions too. If the MB site states they were fitted to the T-33, then it's very likely that some countries did retrofit them to their aircraft, as happened with the F-104. (RCAF/CAF CF-104's used the standard C-2 seat, but when these were sold-on to Denmark, they fitted the MB seat, same as Germany and Belgium, for example.).
Before you take my info as Gospel, just check on the RCAF/CAF CT-133 spec, in case they fitted the MB seats later. I don't think they did, and I wish I could find the magazine that has an article and colour profiles, including RCAF/CAF T-33s, as the info might be there, and I had intended doing a German or RCAF T-33 myself some time.
Meanwhile, here's a pic of an ex- Canadian CT-133 at Elvington, a gift from the CAF, next to the Canadian Forces Memorial, which as you'll see has the Lockheed seats installed.

Not exactly an aeroplane, but this is representing my present for myself for my incoming birthday:

Quite strange the idea of supplying the hull already in red plastic, but I cannot change, I will just have to repaint it !!!

Good info Terry. I was trying to find out when the CF-104 seat change over occurred but so far, no luck. The CF-105 Arrow used the Mk.5 seats but It would be a shame to use them as they wouldn't be seen with the closed(only option) canopy. Here's what i want to do in the GB and it looks like Lockheed seats as well...

EDIT: Good Gawd, that was a large photo

It'll look great in that scheme, and yes, they're the Lockheed seats.
BTW, which kit are you using? Last one I did was the old Italeri I think, ex -Hawk or Testors, which wasn't bad, except for 'chunky' internal detail.
