The F4U is for a group build with IPMS USA Houston, we all paid $15 US for one kit they bought. If we finish the we get our $15 back. OOB no add ons save decals.

Not sure any of the decals in this will work. one set says it for a 1D but the drawing is for a 1A. I never trust decals unless I can verify.

Some time ago I asked about a 3D-printed model jig/stand, shown here. I found the exact same design for free, but it was too big for our home 3D-printer. So I searched again for a more suitable design. This is what I found:

I didn't want the rotating base and my son designed 4 legs for a static jig. Here's my revised home-printed stand:

The supports of the original design were too short and could not be used with high-winged a/c like flying boats e.g. or with float planes. My son redesigned all supports to be longer by 1". Now I have plenty of configurations to use:

The stand is good for all 1:72 models, even the bigger ones and for 1:48 fighters, attack planes. medium bombers (checked with a B-25) and probably will work with 4-mots (B-17, B-24) as well. It looks somehow fragile but it's very stable and the parts do not bend at all (printed with PLA-filament).

Don, I just see two F4U-1s (birdcage, though technically the -1 designation ncluded the '1a' version, name of which was only used inhouse, not officially), and what we now call the -'1a' to differentiate...unless there are more drawings inside the plan?
In any case, the external difference is in the extra drop tank racks, and provision for rockets.
 
Super. Did "B-004" using a different decal set. Used the old gimmicky Monogram kit with a lot of pain. Also my first attempt using an airbrush

Very helpful. The Monogram I am sure was challenging. This is one of those filavorous side projects I just got into my head. It looks interesting and has nothing to do with the IJn or IJA, but they look cool.

If you are interested in "The Battle of Palmdale", you'll need two more F-89 Scorpion (Revell made a 1:48 D/J decades ago, goes for $70 CAD in my local hobby store) and a nice truck (for the ground remote control - AFAIK it's a Plymouth but not so sure) and voila!

I play with this idea since 2015 (so 10 years) but for the 1:72 scale. I have everything: 2 F-89 (Academy and Revell Hobbycraft), F6F-5 (Hobbyboss) and a matching truck to be modified (from a Matchbox die-cast car, scale unknown but near to 1:75). Don't have the decals though, especially for the "Scorpions", the 437th FS. . Started making them at home. No success so far. Project stop. Maybe a new hope soon?
Have a lot of information in my archive though. If anybody needs it, I'm ready to help.
I even suggested a "combined build" in a different forum 10 years ago: 4 (or more) people model the single objects and "merge them" in the internet only (photos of the models). The modellers meet together (physically) some day eventually. Didn't find any support at that time though.
Here's a drawing of the drone (drones are so "en vogue" today, aren't they):

This decal set encompasses ten or twelve aircraft. -1's, -1a's and two called for -1d's. The -1d didn't have the upper reinforcement bands on the canopy. The drawings depict the overall navy blue paint of the one d bit they drew in the reinforcement bands. Probably a mistake on the artwork, but infuriates me.

Generally yeah, but most RNZAF F4U-1D's had the reinforcement bands on the canopies (and earlier narrow blade props). Only a small number had the fully blown canopy and wider prop (the latter items only became a 'standard' feature when we received our FG-1Ds).

The RNZAF regularly cannibalised written off airframes for parts in the PTO, so it is possible the decal subject received an earlier canopy in the same manner?

There is also the question of when paint schemes were changed. Three tone to two tone to one tone. It's been my understanding the the 1D were all dark navy blue paint. But now I JUST DON'T KNOW, I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!!!
