South Pacific Air War - The Role of Air Power in the New Guinea and Solomon Island Campaigns, January 1943 to February 1944 ...
Guys, I have just finished reading Richard Dunn's epic book on the air war in the South Pacific. It really refutes some of our preconceived notions on the effectiveness of many Allied airplanes designs and the quality of Japanese equipment. Richard, I believe has one of the largest collection of translated Japanese documents and used these to put together this most impressive book. At nearly 600 pages there are innumerable details of missions, intertwined with technical details and tails if individual heroism. It was a riveting read.
I didn't put Ryan's book on the list, even though I thought it was good. it's the first thing I read after watching the movie.
The Osprey books are more for maps than anything else. Pretty pictures.
I was just going to post I finished the book. I liked it. I enjoy reading any book on the Pacific. The book is a good read. The author doesn't try to compete with Tully and Parshall it is more of a narrative. It is hard to equal the analytics of Shattered Sword. But this is a good quick read. I listened to the audible edition. If you like Midway, I recommend.
