RR Peregrine on 100 Octane fuel

Believe (could be wrong) that part of the take-off procedure was to run the engines up to 9lbs momentarily once warmed up to check.
manual also says to use 9+lbs on the remaining engine if one engine fails on take-off.

I have never seen a power level for that about of boost but it sure seems like they were using it on a routine basis? Like taking-off.

In Aeroplane Monthly of Jan and Feb 1985 Terry Heffernan wrote a two-part article about Whirlwind testing and operation.
Below a couple of bits mentioning boost during the aforementioned April 1940 test of prototype L6845, and the 1941 test of P6987 with thicker wings to accommodate self sealing tanks:
