MADRID — Authorities say a plane has crashed into a hangar and exploded, seriously injuring its pilot at an air show held in an airfield southwest of Madrid.
A spokesman for Spain's airport authority says some 3,000 people were at Cuatro Vientos airfield watching a showcase of aerial acrobatics and vintage aircraft when the plane crashed, sending a fireball into the air.
State broadcaster RTVE showed images of a large plume of smoke rising above hangars Sunday and interviewed witnesses who described the plane entering a dive and crashing into buildings.
The airport authority spokesman says no one aside from the pilot was hurt. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed by the authority to be cited by name.
