The P-47's 2800 WASP engine used a large turbocharger and used long ducting to feed that turbocharger.
If you put the 2800 WASP (supercharged) engine that was used in the F4U Corsair, into the P-47, how much weight could have been saved?

This was discussed earlier in this thread starting at the bottom of page 14:

It was calculated that replacing the turbocharger system with a two-stage supercharger would reduce the empty weight of the P-47D by about 600 lbs.

Guess it would have not saved a lot of weight, but it would have left a lot of room for another gas tank.
