Does anyone have any details on the effects of combat on the range of WWII Aircraft? ie, if say a Japanese Zero has a range of over 1,000 nm, if it gets in a dogfight, roughly how much range would it lose? Or, to give another instance, if a US Avenger Torpedo Bomber has a range of, say just over 1,000 nm, how much range might it lose?
I realise this is not a simple question, since it must depend on what the combat involves and how long it lasts, but if a WWII aircraft is using maximum power for, say, five minutes, roughly what percentage of its fuel is it using? Is there much difference in this between single and multi engine aircraft or between inline and radial engine aircraft?
Thanks
