The Beechcraft Bonanza changed aviation forever when it took to the skies in 1947, introducing a sleek, all-metal design that made pre-war fabric airplanes look like ancient history overnight. Its most iconic feature was the distinctive V-tail, a bold engineering choice meant to reduce drag, though it eventually earned a bit of a notorious reputation among pilots who dubbed it the "fork-tailed doctor killer" due to early handling accidents. Despite that dark nickname, the plane was an absolute masterpiece of performance and utility, becoming the ultimate status symbol for postwar business executives who wanted to fly themselves. Beechcraft later introduced a more traditional straight-tail version, which helped solidify its place as a reliable industry workhorse. Remarkably, the Bonanza has been in continuous production for over 75 years, making it the longest-running aircraft production story in history and a true legend of the skies.

But all good things come to an end, as Textron Aviation announced the end of production for the Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron lines.
