The Operations Room: The Firebombing of Hamburg

My dad was 10 years old at the time and lived in Pőseldorf (part of Hamburg) near the Alster, a tributary of the Elbe. The bombing was close but not in that part of Hamburg. From what I found out later that part was due to be hit on the third night but the mission was postponed due to weather and smoke cover from the two previous nights making targeting impossible.
My dad never talked about what happened, in fact the only time I ever remember him saying anything was a night that he and his younger brother (my uncle Heinz) got very drunk. As a ten year old it was quite shocking to see two grown men, my dad and my uncle in floods of tears and I left them to it. I can still remember that night 50 odd years later.
