How did the 8th AF grade their drops?
What were the categories?
A B C D?

Very Accurate? Not Accurate?
 
The 8th AF was no different than the AAF's other organizations. Measure of bombing accuracy was CEP for circular error probable: the distance from the aim point at which 50 percent of the bombs hit. The goal was 1,000 feet radius. It was achieved on occasion but got off to a REALLY poor start. I wrote the first posthumous bio of LeMay; when he arrived in the UK with his B-17 group in late '42 he did some checking and found that 20 percent of bombs hit within FIVE MILES of the target. He set about fixing that...
