Firing a prototype of Colt Browning T9/M9 water coooled 37mm gun, this was the same ( without the water jacket and belt fed) gun employed into the single P-63D.
This gun was not the same used in P-39 Airacobra, that employed a much less powerful cartrigde.
Does anybody have figures for width and height for the 37mm M4 & M9? I have weight figures (213 vs 405 lb.), and a barrel length (89.5 vs 104), but not width and height.
Not finding anything in "The Machine Gun" by Colonel George Chinn. Lots of other stuff but no height and width.
However since the feed system/s could be changed that might affect things.
Since the M9 was pretty much the same as the 37mm M1A2 AA gun perhaps that could provide your answer?
The gun was adaptable to both left and right feed.
1. M-4: The 13-7/8th figure is based on height, or width?
2. M-9: It seems that the M1A2 is almost certainly not the same as the M9, that gun weighed a couple thousand pounds
The barrel of the M9 was initially shorter and lighter than that of the M1A2, as it was intended for use in the P-63 Kingcobra. When this installation was dropped, the M1A2 barrel was fitted instead.

The gun is not perfectly straight in the image and appears to be slightly pointed away from the camera. With the length figures determined, could you give me the height?
