I am working in rural France at the moment, at 10.45 AM the whole town was deserted everybody young and old was at the memorial in the church yard around the corner from the high street. There was no military, no bands, no marching just a very solemn service remembering the dead as if conducting a funeral. I wouldnt take pictures of such an event it would turn private grief into a tourist "faux pas" but it was poignant and impressive.
