Prayer on Veterans Day

"Dear Lord Jesus Christ,
those whom we honor today are examples
of your words:
"Greater love than this no one has:
that he lay down his life for his friends."

Thank you to all our veterans. And an especial thank you to those who never returned.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Remember this is next year Jan ............... massive salutes just the same

and thank the living today, they need your phone call(s), e-mails and your personal visits, they are thinking why we are alive and made it through when their own buddies did not .......... I have too many too count but persevere I must

Salute to all our Veterans throughout the World.

11-11-11 is the date and hour of a great cold snap that hit the US Midwest called "Great Blue Norther of 11/11/11". Hit on the 11th month, 11th day, in the year of 1911. Temps went from record highs to record lows in one day.

I think Jan is referring to the 11th hour, of the 11th Day, of the 11th Month - when the Armistice came into force in the Great War (First World War). This is the day celebrated each year in the UK and what were the Dominions, with the nearest Sunday seeing parades at each town's/city's cenotaph, known as Rememberence Sunday, when popies are laid.
H.M. The Queen of England attends at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London.

Rest in peace, my brother you now belong to the ages:salute:

Airframes you beat me to it, Veterans day has replaced Armistice Day and we also hardly ever hear about VJ or VE day any more.
All Gave Some and Some Gave All and especially the MIAs:salute:
