Ryan XF2R-1 Dark Shark

The XF2R-1 was developed from Ryan's FR "Fireball", which had been developed and flown before WWII ended.

If memory is accurate, Tony Levere in his book spoke of an occasion while flight testing a new P-38. He spotted Ryan's new plane and went to see. He tried to engage in a race, which the Ryan's pilot ignored. After a few more attempts, Tony shut down one engine, indicating he could beat him with one engine, and the Ryan's pilot shut down the recip and flew along side the 38 on the jet.
