They might look slow but they're scorching, flying at 180 mph plus on final.

I didn't know the speed on final and thanks for giving that, but even without that I reckoned it was a matter of perspective: the plane is so huge it is going to look slow on approach no matter what.

I was looking through some approach plates at runways in Alaska, one of the approach plates, maybe Adak, said,"Plan approach carefully, successful missed approach improbable". But that's Alaska.
