It's been a long time since I read Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. Didn't Lt. Lawsen (?) attempt to do a wheels down landing on a beach in China after the Doolittle Raid?

This is the exception rather than the rule and would not be a regular practice under normal operations. When landing on a beach you run the risk of having the stability of the sand change which can result in a nose over, be it in a taildragger or an aircraft with a nose landing gear. This guy made it out OK but you can see what happened to the NLG. If he had any type of prop strike the engine would have to be torn down and inspected (at a minimum) for damage, the prop would also have to be inspected and possibly repaired as well.Actually it depends on the sand/beach. During the Korean War the allies used some of the beaches of islands off North Korea as emergency landing fields, the RAAF had at least one Meteor land, be repaired and take off. Report from one of the engineer officers who did the repair, flew in using a C-47. State of the tide was considered important.
This guy tried to take off right at the shore line where the sand would be harder due to the surf. A misjudgment of a wave washing up on shore results in disaster. Imaging a fully loaded WW2 bomber or any type attempting to do this!

Considering most islands have beachs to land on the idea of a flying boat is redunat.
The plot thickens. Can it really be a coincidence that this was uploaded yesterday?
No need for all those USN SeaBees when you have mother nature's medium bomber landing strips.I guess they should have talked to you first, then, before going to all the trouble of building airstrips on islands when there were beaches all over...

That top guy is from Australia so... Getting my coat.
Damn the Japanese were foolish for constructing and fighting for Henderson field when they were already surruonded by nice beaches.
There's a lot of great stuff in there!Scroll down to page 27.... LIFE
With what we have learned in this thread, Guadalcanal in hindsight becomes one of the US's most succesful deceptions of the war. Damn the Japanese were foolish for constructing and fighting for Henderson field when they were already surruonded by nice beaches.
Go look at some pictures of light aircraft with high flotation tires. Compare these to the same aircraft with normal tires, then explain why your scheme would work with a large aircraft with retractable gear. All terrain tires so you dont get stuck .
