Why did the US Navy Blue Angels start with Hellcats?

From Squadron's "A Pictorial History of the Blue Angels": "After selecting three of the Navy's top fighter pilots and evaluating many of the Navy's current aircraft, LCDR Voris and his team picked the F6F-5 Hellcat as their first exhibition aircraft..........." "Aside from performing these maneuvers in close formation, to which the team adjusted to with little problem, the most difficult problem was bringing the maneuvers down to eye level where the public would see them. The teams selection of the Grumman Hellcat proved to be just what they expected - it excelled in this low altitude environment....."
Side-note: A cash prize was offered by the local newspaper, "The Jax Air News" to name the team. From the suggestions came the name "Blue Lancers" which was given to the team but never accepted by the men. A short time later while the team was in New York for an exhibition they came across the name "The Blue Angel" in a advertising brochure for nightclubs. The name wasn't immediately announced until the World's Aviation Meet in Omaha Nebraska, July 19-21 1946. The three days celebration was the actual public beginning of the Blue Angels.
Side- side note: I actually wrote Blue Angles three times and only caught it moments before hitting post. You guys would have had a field day
