That F4U had been in a pitched battle with the 343rd Koutai. That was the IJN unit that attacked my friend Bob's PB4Y-2 for 30 min , losing two aircraft while wounding some Privateer crewmen and shooting out the throttle to one of the engines, forcing it to be shut down. Bob's and the other Privateer made it back to their base on Okinawa and none of the wounded died.
