Thank you! That is the first article on it I've read that was accurate. The AP had one out saying it was a destroyer, showed a picture of a sister ship that was actually a Fletcher class destroyer and stated it was sunk by the IJNS Yamato.
Well the AP got some things right, she was a US Navy ship, was sunk, was in a battle with the IJN. See? Isnt that realy all you need? Facts can be such pesky things , dont you think? .
When I was in High School, I had a job aboard USN Naval Shipyard, Long Beach and my boss was a retired Navy Chief.
He served aboard Destroyers in WWII and his DD was sunk during the Battle of Samar.
We never did find out which Tin Can he served aboard during the battle and he never spoke about it.
