Decided to go hunting as the person who sent a list of manuals to me is never that tidy when doing an email and I found that the Russian Air Force Museum at Monino has an equivalent to our magic archivist VikingBeserker who goes by the handle Something and he is the major poster in the 25 page thread of manuals at Книги по матчасти Look for his avatar [

Note that different translation software may translate his handle differently. I use Imtranslation

I printed a couple of random pages to show some of what he posts

As soon as I get a chance I will also post an interesting one to the P-never to be mentioned documents thread as it covers Russian modifications and operating procedures.

Dear friends,
As you know, the Ilyushin Il-2 is one of the most famous WW2 airplanes.
All the serial planes were called just Il-2 in the official documents, both single and two seaters, but now for the first time we have a description of the many differences between all the Il-2 series, starting from 1941 and ending in 1945!
The author of this study is Professor Ivan Rodionov, who published a first article with scale drawings from factory material, in the May edition of Modelist Konstructor for the year 1982, and after little more than forty years, published an up to date article, in January 2023 in M-Hobby with scale drawings by Trufanov.
Now in Massimo Tessitori site, we have, in English, the most detailed description that I have ever seen of all the visible differences in the different series produced by the different factories.
You can find a description of all the single series produced by Zavod 18, divided by serial number, at the address
It is two files, about 90% images and 10% text.
Soon other pages will appear describing the remaining factories and the two seater.
Many things still remain to be discovered, so corrections and additions are welcome, but I would say that at last, we have enough information to produce an Il-2 model faithful to the original.
Regards
Daniele

Hi,

My latest blog post has just been published here: 10.(Pz.)/SG 1 and Bagration - Air War Publications

It outlines the history of Luftwaffe anti-tank unit 10.(Pz.)/Schlachtgeschwader 1 from formation in January 1944 until re-designation in January 1945. The Staffel operated the Junkers 87 D and G variants on the central sector of the Eastern Front, and was heavily involved in operations against the Red Army's Bagration offensive in June and July 1944. We've included a map showing unit transfers, and a couple of first-hand accounts from unit members.

All the best,
Andrew A.

RAF Air Historical Branch Translations from Captured German Documents Online

The Royal Air Force Air Historical Branch have added to their already extensive array of online documents with the recent addition of a new sub-section comprising AHB translations of captured German Documents. As their website notes:

The following German documents were translated by the Air Historical Branch after the Second World War. They vividly record the German perspective on wartime air operations, the progressive decline of the Luftwaffe, and Allied dominance of the air dimension in the later wartime years. Originally archived numerically, the scanned translations have now been grouped as logically as possible according to theatre campaign, chronology or theme. The original AHB translation numbers are shown in brackets.

Combined with their RAF WW2 campaign narratives and thematic studies they provide another good resource for researchers of original material.

Down the rabbit hole we go, happy reading.

I launched a YouTube channel focused on the squadrons assigned to the first four US Marine commanded Escort Carriers:

USS Block Island,
USS Gilbert Islands,
USS Cape Gloucester,
USS Vella Gulf.

I have some 40+ color films shorts from the 1945 time frame showing carrier qual, weapon training, and then deployment action. There are many more to follow (and a website with more background detail).

Please check it out if you get a chance:

Hi,

Air War Publications has just released our latest blog post, a short article outlining the history of 10.(Pz.)/Schlachtgeschwader 1 in 1944, and in particular the Bagration period in the summer of that year. Here is a link to the post, which we hope is of interest to 12 O'Clock High members: https://airwarpublications.com/10-pz...and-bagration/

Cheers,
