This is the aircraft that Friedrich Christiansen was flying on 31 July 1918. Coincidentally, the "Aces" registry at this website has Friedrich Christiansen shooting down a Felixstowe flying boat on that same date. It was his 13th and final victory.

Pioneer aeronaut Hans F. Dons, originally a naval submarine officer, bought the first Norwegian aeroplane for the Royal Norwegian Navy in 1912. It was a German Rumpler Taube ("pigeon"), and Dons had brought the plane to Norway after a few flying lessons in Germany. June 1st 1912, he took off from a field close to the most important naval port in Horten, Vestfold. In stead of making a short first test flight, he decided to head on over the Oslo fjord, and landed 35 minutes later close to Fredrikstad, 60 km away.

On the night of 23/24 September 1916, Zeppelins set out to bomb London. These were newly designed and built Zeppelins, superior to the Zeppelins which had previously flown over England. Zeppelin L32 was shot down by Frederick Sowrey, RFC, aged 23, and crashed near Snails Farm, South Green, Great Burstead, Near Billericay. Its target was London, but because of an anti-aircraft barrage, it dropped its bombs near Purfleet. It began to make its was back to Germany when it was intercepted by Sowrey who was on routine night patrol. The airship was picked out in the night sky by searchlights and Sowrey launched his attack. Firing three drums of incendiary ammunition into the body of the airship, she caught alight and plummeted to the ground at sometime after 1 a.m. All 22 of the crew were killed.One witness described how in the night sky he saw a pink glare which turned to coppery red, then a ball of flame emerged which changed its shape to a perpendicular cylindrical mass of flame… Sowrey was later awarded the DSO; He died in 1966 aged 75.

1918 Capt. Robert L. Rockwell of the 93rd Aero Squadron eyeballs a Fokker D. VII that's out of the fight in late October, 1918.

Doing some research and reading, based on the presence of the Jasta 19 triplanes, one of wich flown by Arthur Rahn, and the time of the day, that the most likely match for this scene, is Ernst Udet victory number 30.

This painting depicts the action of August 11, 1918, when Brandenburg floatplane fighters attacked six British motor torpedo boats that were operating against German minesweepers. Three of thetorpedo boats were sunk and the other three were damaged so badly they beached themselves in Holland to avoid sinking. Brandenburg W19 Marine #2249 was one of the seaplanes that sank a torpedo boat. The fight was not all one-sided. The Germans lost one W29 monoplane with the crew killed.
