Supermarine Spitfire LF.Mk.VB

Shown here is a Sptifire LF.Mk.VB of No.64 Sqd showing 'invasion' stripes worn on the outer wings of tactical fighters at the time of Operation Starkey, in September 1943. This was a large-scale deception timed to coincide with the landings in Italy, the intention being to make the Germans think an invasion of northern France was to take place simultaneously.
