    When you put the SBD list on post #94, it immediately caused confusion. In my photo collection, I have first tried to get info from the data plate, second from the owner or pilot, and third from the FAA site. Back in 79 thru 82 at CAF airshows, I noted the CAF bird as a RA-24B-15-DT . Your data is confirmed in Naval lists and FAA. Do you have any idea what aircraft could have been seen at those shows?

    Hello sir, you mentioned that the He 162 ejection seat was of the rocket type, unlike the gas catapult system of the He 280. Do you have any further information about this?

    Hi Kris - the He280 and He219 used a compressed air system to activate the ejection seat.
    The He162 used explosive charges that drove the seat up rails and out of the cockpit. It's technically referred to as a "rocket system" because the seat is driven by expanding gases.

    I personally know three forum members (all from Redding) and I know there's quite a few further south - but none from the Bay Area.

    Bugger, Redding is too far North, I lived ther in the late '70s. Looking for guidance for hobby shops in the Bay Area. Been many years since I have shopped there. Will be there next Monday. Thanks, Bill

    Actually many of the US interwar fighter aircraft were "fitted" to take one .30 and one .50 cal guns. How many actually were I don't know.

    In regards to your question, here's a list of accepted types that had the .30/.50 cowl setup prior to 1939.
    Army Types:
    Boeing P-26
    Navy types:
    Brewster F2A-1 (changed to 2x.50 for production)
    Curtiss BF2C
    Grumman F3F
    There's quite a few that had a blend of .30 (cowl) and .50 (wings), too.

    hi...you ref your uncle rescuing personnel including Japn aircrew in WWII while on submarines. Do you know his sub name and service time? I am trying to do a list of aviators (504) rescued by US Subs in WWII. That is the first I have heard of Japanese aircrews (US subs did take a few POWs if possible during the war)
