If there was not a WW2, say Hitler dies of a heart attack or something like that pre-1939, how long would it take the US to develop jet engines without British assistance? They were pretty behind compared to the Europeans and needed British developments to jump start their own program in 1943.

Been scouring for an answer and haven't found a definitive one, was hoping someone around here might know: Did the Yak-1 have a heater for pilots or did they have to suffer in the cold (particularly looking at its service in 1942 and early 1943)? And if it did have one, did it work...
My wonderful wife surprised the heck out of me for my birthday on Saturady and got me an hour and a half flight lesson. I was impressed before with WWII pilots (and pilots in general) but after experiencing it for myself that amount is 100 fold!
