That's a good theory, has it come up in the one your working on. The decal sheet has a number to be placed during the build so I'll be checking out both theory's.

It has not Vic. Our interior has had several coats of paint applied over the years and I could not find any evidence of the yellow disks. The pilot's seat back was replaced with a plywood piece to save weight. The Navigator's back rest remains steel as it has various controls bolted to the back of it but no yellow discs to my memory.

It's possible that the practice ceased later in the war. There are two other Mosquitos in existence within 12 serial numbers from ours (RS709 in Dayton and Weeks' RS712) and neither one has the discs to my knowledge.
 
By my reckoning you guys west of Huston will either just be ringing in the New Year are getting tanked up ready for the midnight shindig, or if you are like me, to old for this caper, will be at home with a nice drink or tucked up in bed. Here in another couple of hours, the sun will sink on the first day of 2025.

Thanks for looking in folks. What you see tonight is the sum total of about 5 afternoons work at the bench and the end of page two in the instructions.





 
Great stuff Vic.

I was in the shower when midnight struck, having watched two hockey games that I recorded before retiring. Our usual neighbourhood party didn't happen this year so pretty quiet.

Another point, the round bit on the navigator's back armour should be a hunk of armoured glass. I would have thought Tamiya would provide a clear part part for that.

 
Yep, a bit strange having only one mask. Of course, the armour could be displayed in the folded back position, also allowing a clearer view of the radio and rear cockpit area.
 
Hello Vic and all -- Happy New Year ! I just thought I would comment on the yellow discs . I have seen them mentioned over the years on sites like this and in magazines and books . They denote to those concerned [ ground crew etc ] that the component is armour plate . A disc should really be on the head section of the pilots seat for the Mossie as well [ both sides actually ] . I have this kit too [ but not at hand ] and the discs should be on the wall between the Pilot and Nav and the nose gun section [ again both sides ] also . I have viewed a lot of pictures where the discs are visible and where they are not on the same component [ confusing ! ] But generally speaking it seems to me that the disc would be painted where it would easily be seen . Also it seems to be only on British [ design ] manufactured aircraft . Enjoy your Mossie build Vic
