For the gun port patches, I find that the very thin tissue paper that covers many types of decal sheets is ideal.
It can be fixed in place with PVA and painted as required (or paint first then fit) and, if required, it can be lightly pressed into the barrel or port opening to create a depression where the muzzle is, giving a very realistic appearance.
Also, if you wish to depict the guns and patches after firing, the tissue can be torn and 'dirtied' to taste.
