Way back in group build # 54 " Pacific Theatre " I built the Kawasaki Ki-45. The kit came with a bonus kit of this starter truck which I finally built over the last week. I've heard of starter starts, flywheel starts and even shotgun starts but had no idea such a truck existed that would hook to the spinner and turn the engine over.

BTW, many (if not all) Japanese airplanes from the period have those "hooks" in the middle of the spinner. That's made for the starter truck to "catch" it and give it a start.

Pretty slick I must admit. What happened if no truck was available ? They must have had some secondary means ?
