Where Eduard specify "Aluminium" as the overall colour, i suspect this was painted, not bare metal, which seems to be borne out by that photo.

It does look like she's got three different shades....

Yes, I had another look, and there is possible evidence of bare metal. That said, at this period, "Aluminium" paint was the norm, rather than bare meatl, and I've seen pics of Tempests (and Spits) finished in the paint.
Of course, there is also evidence of aircraft being just stripped back to bare metal too.

yep, those are the areas I noted. But look at the wing upper surface, and the overall appearance - seems too 'uniform', smooth and glossy for bare metal.
