Interesting, I wasn't aware that the USAF actually owned any G models. It was my understanding that the Germans and Italian and whom ever else owned them and since they were on US bases, they were marked as US. But since the US was training them here (Luke AFB) . That's some beautiful tail.
The KC-135E's were considered the Cadillac of the tanker force until the R models came out. The were operated by the Guard and Reserve forces. Stationed at Andersen AFB, Guam 81-84 we got a "cold" snap and the temps were in the 70's. AZ ANG bird came in and we're all bundled up in field jackets and they are coming off in T-shirts off loading cases of Coors.
