You know that the one game from 1988 I still remember is not the final against Russia, but the 2-1 in the semi final against Germany. For us it was the cumulation of 14 years of frustration.

The very thing rivalries are made of...

And you know, we may have invented the Schwalbe for you, but it was a Dutchman who perfected it...

ala Robben...

Of course he plays for a German team.

I think the best way to explain it is that a rivalry is a culture between the fans and teams. It is an identity that is passed down from generation to generation. It is taught to your children. It does not happen overnight, it builds up like history to almost a legendary status. That is why it is funny to tell someone that they only have an uneducated opinion when it comes to a rivalry. It really has nothing to do with how good a team is or not.

It also is not a reflection of the quality of a team, hense why I find it amusing that some fans of other teams (ala England) try and use it as some kind of acknowledgement to their greatness or success or what not.

there is FIFA calls it simulation but diving and faking injury is now part of the game and it seems the more famous a player you are the less likely you will get a card for diving.
all players do it, it is cheating and i hate it and i watch less football these days

I did not like the game. It was lame. Both teams saying they played to win but actually lying. Luckily the Belgiums got bored of it and scored. They were the better team anyway. Okay, bring on the next.
