#66 Zombie/Favorite Aircraft in your Stash

I have seen every top Gear from the beginning of the series way way back to the end. The very old ones to the last.
I have seen the speciale of Clarkson about the victoria cross winners and anything else.
I have and have read a lot of his books.
I have endured grand tour. Even liked some bits.
I have enjoyed diddly squat series.

So pardon me if I still do not understand.

But that's ok.

Still... i like me some B-58.
I mean not to disrespect you, my apologies

In terms of numbers, the P-39 has the largest representation in my stash with somewhere around 58 of them unbuilt. But 48 of those are destined for a model building exercise with young'uns.

I think the next one to tackle - probably after my current 1/1 aircraft efforts - is an old Monogram 1/32 F-51D. I want to finally do one of those right, like I did with the old Monogram 1/32 F3F.

I like that F3F!

I like that F3F!
It is not perfect. I decided to make that prop driven MLG work and almost brought it off. But some liquid glue ran down into the gears and I had to settle for the MLG almost all the way down.

I also took pains to hollow out the carb intake using a Dremal but later figured out that in take was unique to Al Williams aircraft and the real F3F's had a carb intake between the top two cylinders, even though you sure can;t see it in any photographs I have found.

I did install the correct antenna rather than the one shown in the kit but should have used a small piece of Al for the tail mast rather than regluing the one that came with the kit multiple times.

Oh, and it looks like 64 P-39 kits rather than 58.

Sound like every kit I've ever done. Looks great from where I'm setting.

I found that the secret to doing a model right is T a k e Y o u r T i m e. Have a spot where it can sit utterly undisturbed and then work on it until you have to stop, due to letting paint or glue dry, mainly. So maybe you only work on it 15 min a day or even less.

And if you work on one of these F3F's go head and bust off the tail antenna mast, because since you have to turn it upside down multiple times You Will bust it off. So cut a little notch in the vertical tail where the mast goes and when you are finally ready to string the antenna, cut a little piece of AL sheet to a tapering shape and superglue it into place.

I haven't seen the rules for this GB - are they shown somewhere? My question is, are whifs included this time or not (normally they are not)? What if (that's the meaning of whif!) my "zombie" never existed in the real world or has a fancy/fantasy "livery" or is one of those Japanese Manga-models?
2B or not 2B?

Technically it's a modified P-38, so why not? :)
It's just an example...and it's not mine, just a copy from the internet. But there are more elaborated whifs as well. With ot without parts from real planes. That's the reason for my question: shall we stay by the real stuff on the "zombie"-shelf or can we grab something different this time?

Here is where the Group Builds are defined and scheduled: GBs 66 to 73 - Finalized Schedule
Zombie (as I originally imagined it) is uncompleted previous GB. In Your Stash was a tongue in cheek requirement to have something already in your possession because I was new to this and compressed the selection process. I see that it is a kit and "if you have it in your stash" nudge, nudge, wink, wink, by that definition, I declare it to be eligible. I was going to build a 1/700 Nelson battleship if I didn't want to finish my pair of Tomcats more. Keep in mind we are a WW2 group as I have been told, so all but one of the next seven are aircraft of that era.
I like to look over a lot of different threads and don't post that much outside of the modelling sections, but it really strikes me that we are a very diverse group. So, welcome to the GB section, CATCH 22 CATCH 22

In the original spirit of the GBs, it's meant for actual aircraft (or those possibly built to prototype stage but not produced), and therefore this type of subject would not be eligible.
It would not be possible to judge the various areas considered - for example, accuracy/quality of the build, paint, decal placement etc.

Airframes &PlasticHero, thank you very much for the detailed answers!
I too see this forum as a source of information about WWII only and think that all GBs shall focus on this particular period. At the moment 50% of the started models (2 out of 4) are not from the WWII-period. This somehow misled me that any "zombie" is a good "zombie".
Cheers!
P.S. I just checked the rules for the very first "Zombie-GB" and they clearly state what is possible and what is not.
Mea culpa, guys! I'm getting older and forgettable.:cry::cry:
"The theme of this Group Build is to resume and finish any aircraft model that was started and abandoned, whether in a previous GB or not. The model must be an aircraft but can be any type representing any time frame. For the benefit of those "few" who are genetically predisposed to finish what they started, and who therefore have no started-but-unfinished kits, this GB will be open to include any aircraft model that has not been started."
