90-MM Gun M3
A post here included pictures of a Panther Tank being knocked out by a M26 at Cologne. There are several samplings of this encounter on youtube. By the way, it is amazing what you can photograph if you have no good sense whatsoever.

I showed my wife these pictures and one of the film clips on youtube. Home from shopping the other day, she brought me a present – a model M26. This resulted in me watching more film clips on youtube and wondering about the gun the tank carried.
Well, I found some information on the gun. Having had no experience with a firearm bigger than a hunting rifle I was amused to read that caring for a 90 mm gun isn't a whole lot different. The cleaning rod is the same, only much bigger. Keep the thing oiled up, make sure the barrel isn't plugged and you are good to go.
Viewing the model, I also wondered about the turret bustle. What was that for; ammo storage, personal equipment storage? Seeing that the gun breach with recoil shields extends about two-thirds of the distance to the rear of the turret ring and that the round is about 37.5 inches long, it looks like that room is needed to insert the shell into the breach.
I found this a good read.
