That's one helluva barn find. This one recently arrived.
It is to quote the precis that appears on the back cover and in their advertisements for the book:
"The story of P-51D Mustang NZ2423, one of thirty received by the RNZAF towards the end of 1945 just as World War Two ended. Sold for scrap it was preserved largely untouched in a shed on a property near Nelson, New Zealand, until it was recovered in 2020. Subject of a meticulous and authentic restoration, it returned to flight in November 2023 at RNZAF Ohakea. The book provides a look at the development of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the Territorial component and the Mustang in RNZAF service. It covers the step by step restoration of the Mustang with incredible 'behind the scenes' detail and is illustrated by 550 colour and 230 black and white images."
The book is available as a hardcover from the author in NZ and selected bookstores in New Zealand, or is also being offered as a print on demand paperback from Amazon. Given the postage costs from NZ to Australia I opted for the print on demand option (and will likely pick up a hardcover copy when I get over to NZ in person next).
If you are interested in the RNZAF's use of the P-51D Mustang, this is a good resource and includes lots of previously unpublished original photos. If you are interested in the restoration to flight of this unique survivor P-51D NZ2423, this book will be of interest to you. It includes lots and lots of photos, with the final section being air to air photos from NZ2423's airshow debut at Warbirds Over Wanaka 2024 airshow, including some alongside the latest of the d.h. Mosquitos to be restored by AVSPECS in NZ that also made an appearance at that airshow.
