Very interesting about the wasps! I know that maggots were used in the past to eat dead flesh and prevent infection - but never heard of wasps doing a similar job.
Not just in the past. Its a fairly common procedure in the UK for certain types of injury as it cleans the wounds without any damage to healthy tissue. If the patient is alergic to certain antibiotics the use is obvious and normally the only feeling the patient has is an urge to scratch the area as it itches (you can guess why). In some cases it can be painful but painkillers easily deal with this.
