Ukrainians are not denying - they have landed on Crimea and keep stating that will be slightly longer vacation stay..... if they did it in fact this is real gamble with major prize in sight...
Oh, wow I didn't catch that until now, Ukraine says it launched 'special operation' in Russian-occupied Crimea

I still like the idea of converting several cargo ships into single use LSTs to seize and hold territory on Crimea. This would be timed with an overland offensive from by-then Ukrainian-held Armyansk combined with possible airborne assault.

Just goes to show we are sometimes on the right track with this thread.

It was recently noted by several posts that a cutoff of Crimea was on the cards
as the signs were emerging. The sinking/damaging of more Russian military transport was
one along with yet another hit on the Kerch bridge.

Now there is more activity to the North and the main missile base in Crimea has just been hit.

Nicely done gents.

Both the Russian government and Wagner sources are now saying Prig was aboard.

Russian blogger Rybar reports that the pane was downed as a result of two explosions.

And from ISW:

Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin and founder Dmitry Utkin reportedly died after Russian forces shot down an aircraft transporting senior Wagner commanders over Tver Oblast. The Russian Federal Aviation Agency (Rosaviatsiya) reported on August 23 that all the passengers – Yevgeny Prigozhin, Dmitry Utkin, Sergei Propustin, Yevgeny Makaryan, Alexander Totmin, Valery Chekalov, Nikolai Matyuseev – died in the crash along with all three crew members.[1] Russian opposition outlet Dossier reported that Chekalov, who is under US sanctions for transferring munitions to Russia and has acted on behalf of Prigozhin, oversaw Wagner transport logistics and "civilian" projects abroad.[2] A Russian insider source claimed that Chekalov also served as head of Wagner's security services, though another source refuted this claim.[3] Dossier also reported that several other passengers joined Wagner between 2015 and 2017 and fought in Syria, although their current positions are unclear.[4] Russian sources amplified footage apparently showing a Russian missile striking an aircraft carrying Prigozhin, Utkin, and other Wagner commanders and the wreckage of the aircraft.[5] An insider source claimed that two S-300 missiles shot down the aircraft.[6] Flight tracking data for an Embraer Legacy 600 jet (registration number RA-02795) registered to the Wagner Group stopped after 6:11pm Moscow time while over Tver Oblast.[7] Russian sources claimed that a second Wagner Group-owned Embraer jet (registration number RA-02748) departed Moscow but turned around and landed at Ostafyevo airport in Moscow around the time of the strike.[8] Flight tracking data showed that this second aircraft arrived in St Petersburg at 6:27pm and flew back to Moscow 20 minutes later arriving at 8:02pm, however.[9]

Second aircraft deployed to give the first a false sense of security? Still skeptical without an independent DNA test
Not only DNA. Who is hurt the most in this dust up? How does this affect the Wagner Group going forward? Is there a reason why the destruction of the aircraft is 'so obviously Putin'? If the Russians wanted him dead (clearly many did) why not whack him out of the public eye - and make everybody speculate?

hilarious

So - Vladimir Putin has finally broken his silence over the plane crash which is presumed to have killed Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin and nine others. (The news broke around 24 hours ago.)

Although Putin paid tribute to the warlord in a televised address, you'll notice in the transcript that we provided below that the Russian president was very precise with his choice of words. He stopped short of directly confirming Prigozhin's death.

Putin stated there had been fatalities, saying he "would like to above all express words of the most sincere condolences to the families of all those who have died". But he seemed to suggest it was not totally clear whether Wagner members were amongst the dead, saying only that "initial information suggests" they were on the plane.

And although he saluted to Prigozhin as a "talented businessman" with a "complicated fate", at no point did Putin state in black and white that the Wagner founder was amongst the dead. However, he did use the past tense when speaking about the 62-year-old.

While the plane that crashed was linked to Prigozhin - and information released by Russian authorities states that he and his right-hand man Dmitry Utkin were amongst seven Wagner associates killed - the BBC has been unable to verify these claims.

Because you want to send a message to any others who might get the idea of rebelling.
