I ran across a suggestion that the tires are to prevent small bomblets such as the drone used from going off in contact with the wing. During the recent attack on the airfield with the IL-76 aircraft, at least 3 were hit in the area of the center-wing fuel tanks. One had fuel and burned to destruction, while the other 2 were not fueled up or were de-fueled - and did not burn. Not sure what happened with the possible 4th IL-76 hit.

Agreed - and the irony is that these Western tanks are fighting the very tanks they were designed to engage.
The whole reason much of NATO has any postwar military hardware at all is to deter and if necessary kill/destroy Russians and Russian hardware. That's one of the benefits of this war, NATO gets to rundown the Russian military without any cost in NATO lives, often with donated kit that was due for replacement. The West will owe Ukraine a big thank you when this is over.

I love this:-

Ukrainian counter-offensive operations in the area, near the border with the southern Zaporizhia region, were thought to have successfully prevented elements of the division from "laterally redeploying to critical areas of the front", the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported.

Staromaiorske sits on one of two Ukrainian axes of advance on the outskirts of the town of Velyka Novosilka.

A Kremlin-installed official in southern Ukraine had said previously that Russian forces had "tactically" withdrawn from Robotyne, the main axis of assault in Kyiv's counter-offensive in the south.
