While I understand that Zelenskyy wants to keep the domestic economy rolling and protect its young adults, I was surprised that the draft age was 27. Even 25 seems high. In Israel, orthodox and medically unfit aside; all Jewish men and women 18–24 years old must enlist to the IDF. Once kit, weapons, training and logistical support can be had, I would reduce the age in Ukraine to 20.Sweeping Changes Proposed to Ukraine’s Draft Law
The proposal introduces email and employer summons, mobilization for some with disabilities, stricter rules for higher education deferments and military registration for Ukrainians abroad.www.kyivpost.com
I'll be sad when they're shot down.Ancient Russian Be-12 flying boats scour waters for Ukrainian drones
Russian military forces have turned to an unconventional solution, employing a Cold War-era Beriev Be-12 'Mail' amphibious flying boat to patrol and monitor the waters surrounding the occupied Crimean peninsula. The purpose seems to primarily target the identification and potential elimination...defence-blog.com
I wonder if a jet has ever shot down a flying boat. Here's probably one of the very few historical chances (until now?) of that occurring where the USN and RAF operated Martin PBM Mariners and Short Sunderlands over Korea, with the former being attacked by two MiG-15s.I'll be sad when they're shot down.

And I would allow enlisted women to volunteer for combat roles. Women in the Russian invasion of Ukraine - Wikipedia. While the pilot herself would say her gender is not relevant, it would be noteworthy when we see that first UAF female F-16 driver. If traditionally masculine cultures like the Turks, Emiratis, Pakistanis, and Jordanians can field women Viper pilots, so can Ukraine.
Oh I do hope that this has some basis of truth. I doubt it but I can wish, it's Christmas after all. Or maybe, its a gung ho SnataSpeculation on F-16
Ukraine F-16 speculation mounts as Russia loses 8 fighter jets in 3 weeks
Ukraine has scored several high-profile victories against Russian aircraft in recent weeks and damaged a large landing ship in Crimea on Tuesday.www.newsweek.com
Can the Vipers launch AAMs that are guided by ground radars or NATO E-3 Sentrys? The range of the AIM-120 is about 100 km (160 km for AIM-120D), which seems insufficient for keeping the Vipers themselves off the Sukhoi's radar. I imagine USN pilots must miss the days of the long range AIM-54 Phoenix.Oh I do hope that this has some basis of truth. I doubt it but I can wish, it's Christmas after all. I think USS Wasp (CV-7) DID generate that much smoke. But it had been hot by 3 torpedoes.........You are right, some sources claim the second picture is a photoshopped eruption of the Etna volcano seen from space.
Anyway:
The 1rst picture is still the Admiral Kuznetsov
Admiral Kuznetsov smoke plume can indeed be seen from space

Russia's Admiral Kuznetsov Aircraft Carrier Has a 'Black Smoke' Problem
Russia's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, is known for thick black smoke emissions due to its outdated Mazut fuel system, adding to its long list of mechanical issues.nationalinterest.org

The AIM-54 was designed to kill bombers. Iran has had a bit of luck with it but it is of limited use against fighters particularly if they are aware. The range of the AIM-120 is about 100 km (160 km for AIM-120D), which seems insufficient for keeping the Vipers themselves off the Sukhoi's radar. Good question. And where are Russia's AWACS, the Beriev A-50 Mainstay? Are they too afraid to use/lose them?
Well we know where one of them is:And where are Russia's AWACS, the Beriev A-50 Mainstay? Are they too afraid to use/lose them?
