Most of the weapons sistems the West is sending are far from from the lastest: Leopard 1, M113, Bradleys, Hawk and Patriot SAMs, Guepards. Most of the munitions were nearing expiry date. Even the M-1 and F-16s aren't the lastest versions.

Agreed. And to be honest, given the antiquity of so much Russian kit, it's not a bad idea.

I do want to say, though, that the Bradleys are punching well above their weight. The Patriots as well, while older models, are getting good kills. And against 150-mph drones, a Gepard is a fine shooter.

You're right, we're not sending the latest or greatest. Neither are the Russians ... though not out of choice on their part.

This is disappointing. The list of Ukrainian cities, towns and villages that have fallen to Russia since Feb 2022 (and remain in Russian hands) continues to grow. Vuhledar is now added of the list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_control_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War. I've highlighted all settlements with pre-war populations over 10,000.

With the exception of Bakhmut's capture in May 2023, most of Russia's gains in 2023 were small settlements. But 2024 has seen strong Russian gains (likely thanks to obstructionists in the US Congress), with already eleven settlements with pre-war 10k pop fallen, of course beginning with the Feb 2024 fall of Avdiivka. I can't help but feel that after Avdiivka's fall the AFU sort of lost its edge in the Donetsk Oblast, after which Zelenskyy decided to go into Russia.
