I suspect you may be partially right: a lot of food, especially produce seen off-season does come from Mexico. Food grains, like wheat and corn (Commonwealth: maize) receive government price supports (subsidies under another name) but produce doesn't. A lot of produce grown in the US is from California, where it is very heavily dependent on (drastically over-committed) irrigation water. This may also be true in Mexico. The other issue, as mentioned, is that a lot (probably the vast majority) of labor used to produce and harvest fruits, vegetables, and greens are immigrants, many of whom are not properly documented. Some producers won't even hire US workers (an orchard near where I grew up imported all its pickers from Jamaica; the tobacco fields would hire local high school students), even if they have any apply.

One hopes.

I wonder if Trump will succeed in making the US as irrelevant to the remainder of the World as it was in the 1830s. He sure seems on that track.

He's definitely got an edge got an edge on Coolidge in the 20s, whose isolationism rendered the LoN essentially toothless. This positive antipathy promises much worse results for the world in my mind.

WWI style? from the 1970s? an airplane is an airplane according to most reporters
After a bit of thought, which hurt, I think it's truer than you think. Don't think of style as in the form of the aircraft but rather in 1914 aerial combat style. Chucking bricks and shooting at the other guy with pistols and shotguns. With that said, the reporter probably has no clue he was insightful and was probably thinking "WW I fighter jet".

Vladimir Putin has suggested that Ukraine should temporarily be placed under UN control to elect what he called a more "competent" government.

It is the latest attempt by the Russian president to challenge the legitimacy of the Kyiv government.

Ukraine accused Putin of proposing "crazy" ideas to delay further movement towards a peace deal - being championed by US President Donald Trump.

The White House insisted Ukraine's governance would be decided by its constitution and people.

I hate to be that guy, but it's Ukraine, not The Ukraine. You wouldn't call Germany The Germany. "The Ukraine" implies that Ukraine is a territory rather than a sovereign nation.
