Actually he was:
1 Marking Territory: Cats have scent glands in their paws. When they scratch, they're not just sharpening their claws; they're also depositing their scent (pheromones) onto you. This is a way for them to "mark" you as part of their territory.
2. Seeking Attention/Initiating Play: If your cat scratches your legs, especially when you've just come home, are busy, or they haven't had much interaction, it's often a direct bid for your attention. They might want you to pet them, play with them, or feed them. Since scratching gets a reaction from you (even if it's "ouch!"), they learn that it's an effective way to get what they want.

So what I'm wondering is, did Russia put that out there to create controversy, or will they actually try and haze a U.S. warship, claiming it was a Ukrainian/UK collaboration (to which they tried to warn everyone with their bullshit press report)?
I don't think so, most of the reporters writing in the Eurasian Times seem to be more pro-russian than Putin himself (or maybe its just anti-western sentiment)

Tangentially related.
