What I find interesting, is Russia rejected the ultimatum.

People are saying 50 days is "too long", but do they think Russia would have reacted differently to 10 days or 30 days?
Of course Putin wouldn't.

What I am curious about, though, is why 50 days. What's going on in the background that requires such a specific amount of time?
